Diary

On the 8th of December 2013, we begin our filming. At 2pm we all met at Celaine’s house to get the make-up and costumes ready. Unfortunately the make-up did not turn out as planned, as our actress was allergic to glue therefore we had to use tape, this made it difficult as the zipper didn’t stay in place during the filming. We also had a limited amount of makeup, so we couldn’t make it look as realistic as we wanted.

After doing the make-up, we made our way to our chosen filming location (the woods). One of our actress wasn’t able to come do to the filming with us; due to this we could only film certain parts. When the other actress had arrived it had gotten dark outside and we couldn’t do any more filming outside; so did the filming of parts that were inside.  We used the torch from out phone, to create a flashing effect.

On the 10th of December 2013, we decided to go out to do the filming after school with the other actress, that wasn’t able to turn up on the first day of filming.  We were able to do the running scene. To getting a tracking shot of the feet, we put the camera on a tripod and tipped upside-down and held the legs of the tripod. Then run along with the actress.tracking-shot

We started the editing process at school, using the Sony Vegas.

After reserving our feedback, we were advised to add a beginning to the film after the opening sequence, to set the film. So during school time we went out to do the filming, of the characters having a conversation.

I looked at a different genre to see what types of things they use in comparision to a horror.

Evaluation: 5.)How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted/addressed my audience by doing questionnaires throughout making the opening sequence because I did questionnaires on what they wanted to see in a horror film. I tried to engage the audience throughout by doing questionnaires and asking for feedback at each stage of production, this made it easier to make sure that it was the right genre and angles for the target audience to enjoy.Questionnaire resultsQuestionnaire results p
I used a lot of ways to look at my audience with questionnaires, interviews etc. Firstly I conducted a questionnaire on what horror films my target audience like, and what they like to see in them. I asked them if the opening sequence needs to include the antagonist most of my feedback suggested that people don’t like to see them as it takes an element of mystery away however as my film changes roles from the beginning to the end, I thought it would be appropriate to see the antagonist because it would help the audience see what is going to happen later on. I also asked why they like to watch them so it would help me figure out what I needed to include in mine which would attract my audience. Some of the films which people said where there favourite ones, I analysed the opening sequences to these to see what type of things they include, that I could possibly include in my product to attract the similar audience. I put the results into graphs and pie charts using excel, this made it easier to see what people liked the most and what they want to see.
Furthermore I used characterisation to attract my audience. I chose characters of the age which my target audience, this would make it easier for the viewers to relate to the characters and using locations which people would usually see they can see it in their own lives.
I also go feedback on my first and second draft to help me develop it too what the people would have wanted. I asked for feedback on my first draft to see what the target audience liked about my product, this would help me see if I needed to make any changes to improve it to what they would like. From my first draft to my final product I have made a lot of changes as I had to go out and film some more and edit it. If I hadn’t got feedback from people about my opening sequence then it may have not attracted my target audience. I tried to engage the audience with the choice of characters and costume which I put them in. the feedback in which I got from my second draft helped me establish the genre as my opening sequence didn’t show how the actual film would start so they said that I should start the beginning of the film to show how the rest of the film would continue on. I did a questionnaire at the beginning of the research to find out what type of horror they already watch and what they expect to happen, when I did this and when I did the new drafts I took this into consideration and the age which I wanted my film to be aged at, to make sure that I got the correct audience.
The video at the top was the final feedback I got from my opening sequence, this is exactly what I wanted to the response to be as they all understood that it was horror and matched the specific audience which I wanted. All the people which we asked said they would continue watching the film which means that we made a good enough storyline to follow and that it is suitable for males and females of the correct age.

Evaluation: 4.)Who would be the audience for your opening sequence?

IMAG2907

The audience for my opening sequence is people aged 15 and over, but mainly teenagers. the picture shows the ages which i mainly aimed it at. My film classification would be a 15 as there would be swearing and blood etc. Many horror films which are aged 15 focuses on psychological scares than actual violence, this would be because they are young enough to try and copy what is happening. We decided this in the early stages of research so that we could look at films which would be appropriate, as we rated our film a 15, it gave us a wider range of people which would watch the film because this could go up to young adults whereas an 18 would limit the amount of people which would watch it.

Many horror films are rated a 15 as an 18 includes full nudity. In the opening sequence I tried to show that it was a 15 by using strong language (bitch) this would be used throughout the film, we used it twice in the opening sequence one was written and the other one was spoken. 15’s also include partial nudity I showed this in the opening sequence with the bath scene, later on in the film more violence would happen to show it’s a 15. The audience would be teenagers as those are the age of the characters which I used so they can relate to what is happening in the film and is more likely to enjoy it. I knew that I wanted to do a horror film so I conducted questionnaires on the people which would watch my films, this would help me decide what I was going to make and help me correctly aim my product at the target audience.  Horror is a popular genre which hasn’t been fully explored yet.ring A lot of the people which I interviewed said that their favourite horror film was the ring because it has a lot of psychological elements. The film is just a simple idea but it is made to be scary with the makeup and the face, and the way in which the character walked. I tried to do this with my character as I put her in a similar outfit (all white) and I made her walk moving her head. A lot of the other films which people mentioned used certain clothes to make them different to the other characters; I used similar clothes to help attract the audience as it is similar to the films which they already like.

Evaluation: 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Digital distribution (also called content delivery, online distribution, among others) describes the delivery of media content such as audio, video, software and video games, without the use of other media such as the internet. A production company is mostly involved with the progression and development of a film, however they occasionally involve themselves in the funding of the film too.  Although there are production companies that have connections and work alongside distributors, the distributor does not have any such involvement with the production of the film, and exclusively works on the demonstration and presentation of a product. The type of media institution which might distribute my film would be a company such as bloody disgusting, I would have this company as they specialise in horror genres. They have also done films like v/h/s which is popular horror film which had a low budget however have done well. As my film has a low budget etc. I could use lion’s gate as they cover about 80% of films also if I had this one the film could progress more as a larger company is doing it. They also help low budget films like silent hill and paranormal activity to get them popular. However as it is a small production this company is large for it is unlikely to use my film, unless they feel like it would be a good enough storyline. The production company which I would’ve used for my film is bloody disgusting as they specialise in horror genres, they produced films like v/h/s which was low budget like mine would be meaning they’d be an ideal company.Image
